“The Great Lakes Encounter Symposium 2022 is an exciting and important gathering in Houghton in June 2022. It is the place to be if you are concerned about the health and well-being of the Great Lakes.”

Our Story
The Great Lakes Encounter Symposium (GLES) seeks to host the “Super Bowl” of Great Lakes policy events. Policymakers, industry leaders, regional stakeholders, and leading experts from the environmental science, technology, government, business and water safety sectors, come together to challenge the status quo dialogue, critically address challenges with scholarly recommendations, and collaborate on solutions. Hosted by Michigan Technological University (MTU), the GLES is facilitated by Keweenaw Bay Indian Community member Jeffery Loman, and Wayne F. Abba with Abba Consulting in collaboration with MTU GLES Planning Committee members, Elizabeth Hoy, Timothy Havens, and Roman Sisdortsov.
